Introduction:
The original Fairlight CMI's introduced sampling to the public and also elegant software allowing editing and sequencing.
Wave has tried to follow the Fairlight way of doing things; both in the single-window / multi-page design and also the revolutionary Page R Sequencer.
Similarly Wave also has a command line for direct keyboard entry of commands, although you don't have to use it and you don't have to be a genius either!
File Support:
Wave also supports uncompressed .wav and .aiff files up to 24 bit, Fairlight .vcd, .voc, .vc files and .imd import, Emu .ebl files plus general support for importing unsupported formats in both 8 and 16 bits.
Editing:
Wave has full waveform editing including mono and stereo waveform manipulation. Waveforms can be converted and combined in both stereo and mono. Plus multiple effects to allow you to alter sound volume, stereo panning, etc.
Synthesis:
Fairlight Harmonic additive synthesis is supported along with full waveform drawing, wavetable and Mode1 functionality. Mode1 is a special wavetable mode where you decide which table and its duration to play. There are controls to allow you to combine wavetable and transform or merge wavetables in time.
Sequencer:
Fairlight Page R and Caps are world famous and Wave has tried to replicate this approach. A song is made up from (up to) 64 sequences, with each sequence being up to 32 patterns in length. A pattern is a single bar of 32 tracks and a track is a single mono voice. It might seem complex at first, but you soon get the hang of things. Just think of having 32 Series IIx Fairlights to simultaneously play with and you won't go far wrong.
Voice Control:
Each of Waves 32 voices is made up from 32 subvoices, each individually controlled with 4 envelope generators, 4 LFOs and a rotor. Using a matrix these can be patched to control pitch, volume and pan and wavetables to give unlimited potential.
Effects:
This is only the beginning. Wave also has 8 effect sends and numerous effects to add to your voices.
